Modern Standard Arabic for Beginners: Level 1 is an exclusive, proprietary, in-house training program personally designed and taught by Dr. Judi Al-Saraf, Founder and CEO of Gilgamesh Language Solutions.
Dr. Al-Saraf holds a PhD in Arabic Linguistics from SOAS, University of London, and brings more than 15 years of specialist experience spanning teaching at SOAS, the UK Ministry of Defence, and the Saudi Ministry of Education, alongside Arabic language and cultural consultancy for diplomats, military and government professionals, international clients, and NGOs.

1. What kind of Arabic will I study? You will study Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), the shared standardized variety of Arabic used across the Arab world in education, media, publishing, formal communication, and many official contexts. MSA provides a transferable foundation for continued study and later progression into regional spoken varieties, advanced courses, and specialist professional pathways.
2. Do I need any prior knowledge of Arabic? No. Modern Standard Arabic for Beginners: Level 1 is designed for complete beginners. The course introduces the essential foundations of Arabic through a carefully sequenced progression of pronunciation, high-frequency vocabulary, grammar, and sentence-building.
3. Is this course suitable if I have studied Arabic before? Yes. Level 1 is also suitable for learners who have studied Arabic previously but would benefit from revisiting the foundations in a clear, structured way. It may be particularly useful if you have encountered Arabic through previous classes, independent study, apps, or informal learning but still feel that your knowledge is fragmented or that you would benefit from a more systematic understanding of pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and sentence-building. Because the course is self-paced, you can move more quickly through familiar material while spending additional time on the areas that require review.
4. Do I need to know how to read or write Arabic before starting? No. Prior reading and writing ability is not required. This course introduces Arabic sounds and pronunciation but does not provide formal step-by-step instruction in writing the Arabic alphabet. Arabic script appears alongside transliteration throughout the course materials so that you can engage with the written language progressively while following the spoken examples. A separate GLS Alphabet and Writing course is planned for learners who would like structured instruction in reading and writing Arabic.
5. Who is this course for? This course is designed for serious, motivated learners who want to build a rigorous and transferable foundation in Modern Standard Arabic. 6. Is this a gimmick-driven “learn Arabic fast” course? No. Intentionally! Gilgamesh Language Solutions does not promise instant fluency or effortless results. Learning Arabic requires structure, consistency, practice, repetition, and time. 7. What will I study in Level 1? Level 1 introduces the essential building blocks of Modern Standard Arabic, including: - Arabic sounds and pronunciation - High-frequency everyday vocabulary - Greetings and common expressions - Personal pronouns and foundational sentence patterns - Gender and agreement - Definite and indefinite structures - Sentence expansion and descriptive patterns - Countries and nationality adjectives - Present-tense verbs - Professions and everyday activities - The foundations needed for continued study in Level 2
8. Will I receive guidance, or am I completely on my own? The course is self-paced, but it is not a passive collection of videos. You will be guided through the material through carefully sequenced lessons, structured exercises, detailed answer keys, guided walkthroughs, and step-by-step homework-review videos. These resources are designed to help you apply the material and understand why an answer is correct. Enrollment does not include individualized tutoring, personalized homework correction, personalized language feedback, or email-based instruction.
9. How long will the course take? The course includes approximately 11 hours of video instruction, in addition to guided exercises, homework activities, vocabulary review, repetition, and revisiting lessons as needed. You can work through the course at your own pace and return to earlier lessons whenever additional review would be helpful. The time required will vary according to your pace, study habits, and the amount of review you choose to complete.
10. Should I use external language-learning resources while completing Level 1? At this stage of your studies, we recommend completing the modules in the order presented and using the GLS course materials as your primary learning pathway. We do not recommend consulting external language-learning resources, vocabulary lists, or grammar materials while completing Level 1. Outside materials may introduce vocabulary, structures, transliteration conventions, or explanations out of sequence and can make it more difficult to absorb the curriculum as intended. For the strongest learning experience, focus on the lessons, exercises, homework activities, and review materials provided within the course.
11. How does the self-paced course relate to GLS private training? Modern Standard Arabic for Beginners: Level 1 draws on the same proprietary GLS curriculum framework used in our premium private Arabic training programs, adapted into a structured and flexible self-paced format. The self-paced format allows you to study wherever you are, work through the course according to your own schedule, and revisit the materials whenever needed. Live private training remains available separately through Gilgamesh Language Solutions for learners seeking individualized guidance, personalized feedback, or a tailored study plan.
12. Is live 1:1 Arabic training available alongside the self-paced course? Yes. Students enrolled in Modern Standard Arabic for Beginners: Level 1 who have not previously purchased or participated in GLS live Arabic training are eligible to receive a one-time $175 discount toward the GLS Level 1 Private-Training Accelerator. The Accelerator includes 12 trainer-led 1:1 online Arabic training sessions of 60 minutes each. It may be completed alongside the self-paced course or used as a continuation pathway. The discount must be redeemed within six months of the date of issue. Additional terms apply. Subject to trainer availability.

14. Does Level 1 prepare me for further study? Yes. Modern Standard Arabic for Beginners: Level 1 is the first stage of the GLS Modern Standard Arabic pathway. After completing Level 1, students will be prepared to progress into Modern Standard Arabic for Beginners: Level 2, the next stage of the structured GLS curriculum.
15. Will I receive a certificate of completion? Yes. Students who successfully complete the Level 1 program may request a personalized digital certificate of completion from Gilgamesh Language Solutions. The certificate confirms completion of the self-paced program. It is not an academic degree, professional certification, or externally accredited qualification.
16. How long will I have access to the course? You will receive lifetime access to the purchased Level 1 course, allowing you to work through the program at your own pace and return to the lessons whenever additional review would be helpful.
